Article in the
Cayman Compass, 7th February 2007:
For the second year KPMG has
donated US$5,000 to the Cayman Junior Tennis Initiative helping to promote
health and fitness among the youth.
The Youth Tennis Initiative,
instigated by Warren Urquhart and his assistant coaches at Cayman Sports Ltd in
2005, finds a way to bring this expensive sport within the reach of local
children and give them the skills to play a game they can enjoy for the rest of
their lives. The Initiative gives children the chance to work with professional
tennis coaches at no cost within their own school environment and has
already exposed 1,000 children to the sport. And there are plans for growth. "We
are planning to run an interschool tournament next year and to introduce the
Initiative to schools in Cayman Brac and Little Cayman. To further strengthen
our impact I am looking to hire a coach full time next year to focus primarily
on the Initiative" said Warren.
Despite all the assistance Warren has received from fellow coaches, PE
teachers and the students themselves, he is very grateful for the support of
KPMG. "The Initiative would not be possible without the generous support of our
sponsors".
Partner Kris
Beighton says from KPMG said “we are delighted to be helping the Initiative
as part of our continued involvement in youth sport on the island. Here at
KPMG we believe that in addition to academic development, sports are an integral
part of a young person’s development. In demonstration of this belief we agreed
to a three year Junior Tennis sponsorship. Now in its second year, we are
delighted to see tennis growing in popularity. Being active in the community is
one of our core values; as a result we also support youth sailing, little league
softball and swimming. It is our pleasure to continue to support the youth in
the Cayman Islands."
